Cheer up, Wayne! Rooney can't raise a smile as he and Coleen take son Kai out for his first birthday in rainy Manchester
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Glum: Wayne Rooney failed to raise a smile as he took son Kai out for his first birthday in Manchester yesterday

He may have been celebrating his son Kai's first birthday, but Wayne Rooney couldn't muster a smile as he stepped out yesterday.

The 25-year-old footballer looked sullen as he pushed Kai along the streets of rainy Manchester to a restaurant where the tot marked turning one with a family meal.

But while Wayne refused to cheer up for the occasion, wife Coleen looked more than a little excited about her baby's landmark birthday, as she walked to the eatery with mother Colette and her 12-year-old sister Rosie.

That's better! But wife Coleen and her mother Colette made up for Wayne with their wide smiles as they took 12-year-old Rosie along to the restaurant

Wearing a leopard print coat over jeans and black boots, Coleen grinned widely as she hurried along to the restaurant.

The birthday meal comes after Coleen and Wayne marked the occasion with a £90,000 Disney-themed party for Kai, where family and friends were asked to hand over cameras and mobile phones in a bid to keep the event as private as possible.

Perhaps Wayne's glum expression could be down to the fact he and Coleen recently returned from a luxurious, sunshine-filled holiday in Dubai to the gloomy weather of England.

Casual: Both Wayne and Coleen went for casual looks for their lunch

The couple had enjoyed a lavish break at the £2,000-a-night Burj Al Arab hotel, to celebrate the footballer's £200,000-a-week contract to stay on at Manchester United and to give Wayne a chance for his injured ankle to recover.

But their break got off to a rocky start when they had a furious row on their first night, when diners at a steak restaurant watched the pair bicker, and even accidentally smash a glass during their argument.

Their marriage has been rocked by claims that the footballer cheated on his wife while she was pregnant with son Kai, by sleeping with two prostitutes in a Manchester hotel

Not impressed: Perhaps Wayne wasn't too pleased with the rainy weather

The row over Rooney's alleged infidelities left his wife struggling to forgive the multi-millionaire, now Britain's highest paid footballer.

And the 25-year-old's petulant contract wrangle at Manchester United prompted fury as the rest of Britain struggles in the grip of the worst economic crisis for decades.

One message on the club forum said: 'He should have been in rehab 24/7 to nurture his ankle. Instead he was in Dubai sunbathing.

'It's hard to feel sorry for spoilt millionaire brats.'
